Is submitting resumes’ online to a place like Career Builder secure?

A local TV station had a short story about Identity theft from resumes being submitted online- but I didn’t get which sites where the trouble occurred.

  1. Odin says:

Any site like that will have something like terms & conditions or a securtity statement explaining all the details to you. There should be a link to either of these anywhere on the submission page, maybe at the bottom. I hope this helps.

  2. Identity Theft Secrets says:

Just make sure you do two things:

    1) Don’t include your full address, social security number, driver’s license number, date of birth or any other obvious personally identifying information (PII) in the body of the resume. Make use of the major job boards ability to keep your PII in confidential mode until you decide to respond to email inquiries.

    2) Be wary of any job boards or employment web sites which ask for your SSN upfront in the process. Unfortunately, identity thieves have been known to troll sites like Career Builder looking for unsuspecting victims to email phishing attacks.
